Port and protocol reference

Common TCP and UDP port numbers and what uses them, from web and email to MikroTik routers and CCTV recorders. Search by number, name or purpose. Everything runs in your browser.

Port ranges

WELL-KNOWN
0 – 1023
Assigned by IANA to standard services. On Linux and macOS only an administrator can listen on them.
REGISTERED
1024 – 49151
Registered with IANA by software makers, though anything can use them.
DYNAMIC
49152 – 65535
Picked at random for the client end of a connection. Linux uses 32768–60999 by default.

Nothing you type leaves your browser. A port number is a convention, not a guarantee: any program can listen on any port, and many services let you change theirs. A web page can't test whether a port on your router or server is open, because browsers don't allow raw network connections; use a tool such as nmap, or Test-NetConnection in PowerShell. Assignments follow the IANA service name and port number registry, with widely used unofficial ports marked as such.
